Neeliyar Kottam near Mayyil is a true kavu: a sacred grove with no built sanctum, where the goddess is worshipped under the trees. The Theyyam on Makaram 1 (mid-January) attracts large crowds. The grove is also a rich patch of biodiversity protected by tradition.
