Puthiya Bhagavathi

A form of Bhadrakali born from Shiva's third eye who dances on a bed of fire; one of the most common Bhagavathi Theyyams of Kannur.

Puthiya Bhagavathi ("the new goddess") is a fierce Bhadrakali form. In many kavus her performance includes agni pravesham: dancing on a mound of burning embers. She appears with a tall headgear, red costume and a face painted with black and red stripes, and she is a principal deity in family shrines across Kannur.
